‘Serving Muslims in the UK & Ireland for over 40 years’

The Muslim Students Society was originally set up in 1961 to play an integral part in the welfare of overseas students. Alongside other student organisations such as FOSIS, the MSS has evolved, as have the needs and requirements of Muslim Students and the youth in general in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The MSS played an important role, in its initial stages, in setting Islamic Societies at Universities up and down the country.

The MSS has a rich history, including over 37 national conferences and 36 summer camps during which we have received hundreds of world-renowned scholars, personalities, world leaders and leaders in Islamic thought such as Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, Sheikh Rashid Al-Ghannouchi, Najmudin Arbakan, Jaffar Sheikh Idrees, Hasan Al-Turabi, Mustapha Mashhoor and Abdullah Azzam to name but a few.

Through the years, the MSS has also been able to organise camps, seminars, outings, trips abroad to Europe and the Middle East, and through these activities has been able to fulfil many of the growing requirements of Muslims in the UK – both their practical and intellectual needs. Recent Seminars included the ‘Student Political Activism', 'Islamic Political Thought' and 'The objectives of Shariah'.

> Literature, Publications & Multimedia

The MSS has also been a leader in the field of publications in the west. It produced the first, and for a long time, only Islamic magazine to address topics concerning Muslim Students & Youth in the west. Sawt Al-Ghoraba' or ‘The Voice of the Estranged’ tackled issues of greatest importance to Muslims, especially those who had come to the UK to study from the Middle East and Asian continents.

The MSS has also been able to produce many books, both in English and Arabic, that compliment our other activities to meet the needs and requirements of Muslims Students and Youth through the years.

We also have a massive audio and video collection which includes past lectures, seminars and conferences of the many personalities that we have received through the years, as well as other miscellaneous events and nasheeds, all which are available to those who wish to view them.

> Projects with Other Organisations

We are also proud to say that we have been able to work alongside many other organisations such as FOSIS (Federation of Student Islamic Societies in the UK & Ireland), FEMYSO (Forum for European Muslim Youth and Student Organisations), IFSO (International Federation of Student Organisations), and many other internationally based organisations in many projects. We regularly look forward, for example, to organising our annual Arabic and Islamic studies course in Jordan with FOSIS.
